The Cove is really only a winter/spring spot, otherwise, it can be a total lake out there. However, during the right time of year with the right swells, it’s a longboarder’s paradise – which is really unheard of in South Bay LA! It’s a long paddle out and rocky, but well worth the long, smooth rides. The jetty splits the spot in half and depending on the day, either side can work with plenty of beach breaks down the left side up through Knob Hill and down through Torrance Beach as well. The breakwall does provide for some nice, consistent lefts and it tends to draw fewer crowds than other local spots. This is one of the better spots in Redondo Beach for trying to catch some nice rides.

All things considered, LA is an amazing place to surf and well worth a visit for any wave-chaser. The groundswells that roll in off deep underwater canyons out in the Pacific feed some of the best point breaks in the entire United States. However, it also offers beach breaks and a gorgeous surf town setting that is all glitz and glamour. There are plenty of fun surf breaks, mellow vibes, and sun-kissed active beach life prevails. Despite the development and growth over the past twenty years, the area has managed to maintain a charming small town feel.

That’s best left to the experts, especially since the water is over a shallow reef. When visiting California, we highly recommend renting a car, as there isn’t much easy public transportation available and cities are relatively spread out. Without traffic, the drive from San Diego Airport to Surfhouse is about 30 minutes.

The living areas open towards the ocean through a glazed front, with courtyards, decked terraces, and sliding windows at every turn, ensuring that the landscape remains strongly present everywhere. Upstairs, the architects have placed the bedrooms, tucked away in a more private setting, while large windows frame picture-perfect views of the sea.
However, the image is softening because of ongoing gentrification and an influx of big money. Peaky crests appear and disappear over the choppy waters, but if you can catch a smooth Santa Ana wind, you might score good A-frames with fast lefts and rights. Rougher swells may necessitate a retreat down to RAT Beach, which is a little more protected from the swell’s powerful westerly element. It is best to go when there is an approaching high tide, but keep an eye out for rip currents. Furthermore, the preserved kelp forests offshore ensure excellent water quality.
